Enjoy the charm of the Pioneer Mill Restaurant located on the banks of the scenic Sandusky River in Tiffin, Ohio.
In 1822, Josiah Hedges, one of Tiffin’s fore fathers built a dam, a mill and a house along the Sandusky River. They were the first structures in Tiffin. A fire in 1875 destroyed the original wooden buildings. Rebuilding in the same location the mill withstood the flood of 1913 and continued to function as a gristmill until 1950. After that it was rented out and saw services as a feed store and a carpentry shop.
In 1973 a group of local businessmen transformed the mill into an award-winning restaurant. The Pioneer Mill Restaurant opened for business in 1974 and was placed on the national register of historic places in recognition of its background.
The Pioneer Mill Restaurant has developed into a gathering place for families, friends, and tourists. Whether a couple or a tour bus a friendly host will greet you and seat you for a delicious meal of your choosing.
In 2005, the Pioneer Mill Restaurant built an outdoor deck to facilitate wonderful afternoons and relaxing evenings for your dining pleasure. An island fitted with a gazebo has been host to many wedding receptions, parties and reunions.
